1. The Koala isn’t a bear, they're marsupials. Koalas are
so adorable and sleepy animals that they can draw a crowd at any zoo. Marsupials are mammals that born early
(premature) then they will start growing attached to their mom’s nipples. Eg:
Kangaroo.
2. Koala sleeps for more than 20 hours a day.
3. Koala eats eucalyptus leaves and sleeps in the same tree.
It eats 400 grams of leaves per day so it receives less energy. Koala limits the
use of its energy and this is the reason behind its long resting hours.
4. Koalas are of two kinds, they are Adustus from the Northern
or Queensland Koalas and Victorian Koalas. Queensland Koala is the smallest. It
has small head, silver hairy fur and short body. The largest koala is Victorian
Koala which has big wide head, brown hair.
5. Male koala has curvy nose compared to the female. In a
Male Koala, the chest glands are visible in the hairless area on its body.
6. Koala’s paw has four fingers/toes. The claws are very
sharp which helps to climb the trees and hold the branches.
7. Koala has the smallest brain compared to the weight of body
of any mammals.
8. Koala has good smelling and hearing senses but it has a
poor vision. It’s smaller eyes and vertical slit pupil makes bad eye sight.
9. Baby Koala is called Joey. A koala joey is two
centimetres long. They have no hair, no ears at all, and can’t see.
Immediately, they crawl into their mother's pouch after birth, and stay there
for about six months until they are ready to get out.
10. Koala’s life span is 13 to 18 years. The female Koalas
live longer than the Male. If the Koala falls from the tree, it manages to
climb back. Only the young ones get injured and die due to the accidental fall.
